Grow West Pre-Conference Bus Tour Details
Emergency Numbers. In case of emergencies, your family back home can reach you at Convention headquarters: Hyatt Regency Calgary, 700 Centre Street SE, Calgary, Alberta, phone: (403) 717-1234 Overnight Accommodations If you are participating in the pre-conference bus tours, it is required that you have made your own overnight hotel arrangements at the Hyatt Regency Calgary, or a nearby hotel for your arrival to Calgary dates, as well as your Tuesday night return to Calgary, and Wednesday night through the workshop and conference dates of your choosing. NAFDMA has made your rooming arrangements for Monday night in Lethbridge, Alberta, and NAFDMA covers that cost as part of your tour package. Bus tour Check-In. Your registration check-in will take place between 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Stephen Room at the Hyatt Regency Calgary on Sunday, February 11. Please locate the bus registration table for your designated tour bus to check in, meet your bus tour guides, receive your registration materials and be informed of your specific bus loading time and location for Monday morning. All buses board and depart at staggered times from 7:45 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. If you are unable to make it to registration Sunday evening due to travel times, you may register in the Stephen Room on Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. SHARP. Luggage. Pack a simple overnight bag for the one night away from Calgary. This makes life much easier on you and everyone else at bus boarding times! NAFDMA and the Hyatt Regency will provide a luggage storeroom for your Calgary luggage while you are in Lethbridge. Bring your Calgary luggage to the Catch Events Center, either Sunday evening at registration time or Monday morning before breakfast. You will retrieve your luggage upon return to the Hyatt on Tuesday. Breakfast and Boarding. You will be given breakfast time instructions during registration Sunday night. Please be sure to adhere to the scheduled meal time and boarding time you get from your bus tour guide at registration so we have an easy flow for those who need to board their bus before you. Buses will be boarding at the Stephen Avenue hotel entrance. We provide a very sufficient 15-minute window for boarding. Please do not to arrive to the bus loading landing earlier than 5 minutes before your scheduled boarding time so that those who need to depart before you can do so smoothly. Similarly, don’t arrive late! Pack to ensure you get the most out or your NAFDMA tour experience! As always on NAFDMA tours, the bus travel, fellowship and networking are as rewarding as the stops themselves. Don’t forget to pack photo albums and videos of your farm to share with others along the way; you get the most bang for your tour bucks when you exchange your ideas with others and allow them to give you fresh new thoughts about your own place! There will be plenty of snacks and bottled water on the bus, but it’s always a good idea to be prepared by having a little cash on hand or packing your own favorite snack, especially if you have special dietary needs or medical requirements. Dress in layers because February is chinook month and the temperature can fluctuate 10° to 15° C in a few hours. A chinook is a warm, dry wind that comes over the Rocky Mountains from the west. The temperature in the foothills can range from -11° C (12° F) to 0° C (32° F). See the weather link at www.nafdma.com/Alberta/AB_Travel for the current weather. All other information you’ll need in order to get the most out of your tour experience will be provided at registration and on route. Your responsibility is to be on the bus in the morning; your tour guides will take it from there. More Convention Information.... Workshops – all Workshops begin at 9:00 a.m. Due to the increased popularity of these workshops, on-site registration and switching of pre-registered workshops is no longer possible. If you have pre-registered for a Workshop, check in and get your workshops materials at the door of your assigned workshop location on Thursday, February 15, between at 8:30 –8:45 a.m. (See the signage on the hotel’s reader boards and the signage at our Convention General Registration Desk for room assignments and off-site workshop registration areas.) Hospitality Night On Thursday, February 15, 3:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. the Tradeshow Area will be the center of activity. You must be wearing your conference name badge to enter. Join us for a warm welcome to Calgary from our Grow West partners and sponsors and NAFDMA Board of Directors. Visit with exhibitors and have a cocktail as you mingle before hooking up with friends for dinner on the town in Calgary. Tickets. Your name badge is your ticket to all convention events and happenings. The badge will be printed to include all individual components that you have registered for. Information on how to “read” your name badge will be available during registration. Do not lose your name badge; wear it at all times when attending Convention events. There will be a $25 replacement charge for lost badges. Conference Meals. Lunch is included with Thursday workshops. A light breakfast and full lunches are provided as part of your conference registration on Friday and Saturday. All meals will be served in the Imperial Ballroom area. If you require a big breakfast, feel free to also enjoy Thompson’s Restaurant within the Hyatt for their outstanding daily breakfast buffet, or a nearby restaurant on Stephen Avenue. Convention Web Site. Be sure to check out our web pages thoroughly one more time before you arrive in Calgary. The in-depth information you’ll find there on Bus Tour stops, Workshops, Sessions and Speakers, the Trade Show and Exhibitors, and Members’ Choice Contests will prepare you best to take full advantage of all this convention has to offer, thereby giving you maximum return on your investment of time and money.
