Joe Pine to take farm direct marketing convention to a Rocky Mountain high
What happens when farm direct marketers and agritourism operators from around the world converge on the foothills of Alberta? A growth experience of Rocky proportions!
That's typically what happens every year during and after the North American Farmers' Direct Marketing Convention.
This year, keynote speaker and author Joseph Pine, of St. Paul, Minn., will take convention attendees to new heights as he shares his wisdom about the experience economy and authenticity in farm direct marketing and agritourism. Pine is co-author of The Experience Economy: Work is Theatre & Every Business a Stage and author of Mass Customization: The New Frontier in Business Competition.
The 22nd annual convention held by the North American Farmers’ Direct Marketing Association (NAFDMA) features a two-day conference, a three-day bus tour and a day of intensive workshops. The convention will be held Feb. 12-17, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This year’s convention is being presented in partnership with the Alberta Farmers’ Market Association, Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association, Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and Renewal. For details, visit www.nafdma.com.
Convention participants can pick and choose which components of the convention they'd like to participate. Some choose to attend everything, others opt to attend one or two convention components.
"We came home from the 2006 NAFDMA convention with another year/s worth of enthusiasm to charge forth plus added confidence that direct marketing our products to the customer is the way to survive in today's economy," say Elna and Doug Edgar of Edgar Farms, Innisfail, Alberta.
Conference
The two-day conference will feature the Joseph Pine keynote address, 20 concurrent sessions, six general sessions and more than 50 presenters. Conference admission includes an optional bus ride to the year-round Calgary Farmers’ Market, trade show admission, plus breakfasts and lunches on Friday and Saturday.
Bus Tour
The pre-conference bus tour will be held Feb. 12-14 and will feature three different options: Tour A: Grow the Experience, Tour B: Grow the Sale, and Tour C: Grow the Value. While on the tour, we'll visit a variety of stops, network and glean new ideas to take home to our own businesses. For many, this is the premiere learning opportunity of the convention. Be sure to visit the Web site for a complete list of tour stops for each tour option.
Workshops
A day of workshops will be held Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007. The seven workshops will feature intermediate- to advanced-level topics. Three workshops will take place off site. One workshop will be at the Calgary Zoo, one at the Calgary Farmers' Market, another at internationally renowned Spruce Meadows. The Spruce Meadows workshop will delve into intensive event planning and will include a case study in which participants plan an international children's event. Joe Pine will present "Staging Engaging Retail Experiences."
