The Best Brent Warner Roast Outside of British Columbia
Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007
If you missed Brent's roast, you missed a night of a million laughs. Surprise guests, including Brent's daughter, traveled to Calgary from British Columbia just for the occasion. Many folks dressed for the occasion, wearing sandals, vests and 70s wigs. If you have photos from this night that you'd like to share, please e-mail them to Kelly@WhiteLoafRidge.com.
If there is a single person most responsible for NAFDMA’s success, it’s Brent Warner. He certainly is the one person who has most continuously and consistently contributed in the association’s leadership circles. Brent
left the board a year ago but continues to lurk around behind the
scenes. This evening event is designed to get rid of him for good. It
may or may not be successful, but we sure could use your help in the
effort.Brent joined NAFDMA’s board of directors in 1992. He served as secretary for many years, participated in nearly every board meeting, a majority of convention planning trips, and countless conference calls and association management efforts. Brent was the Conference Chair of the 1998 Conference in Victoria and recipient of the 1999 NAFDMA Leadership Award. He received an intense standing ovation for his keynote address at the 2006 NAFDMA Convention, and he continues to promote NAFDMA at nearly a dozen other events each year as an expert speaker in agritourism. Brent grew up in Ontario, was schooled in horticulture at the University of Guelph, and journeyed west to settle in British Columbia. He was hired by the Ministry of Agriculture as a horticultural specialist and ultimately has served out a career as the farm direct marketing, agritourism and farmers’ market expert in the province. Along the way, he found a home throughout the United States and Canada as a premier advocate for NAFDMA and its mission. Brent will be retiring from the Ministry in British Columbia in 2008, and we’re sure his home province will organize an event at that time celebrating all of the incredible advancements with which Brent should be credited. As for the rest of the continent, this 2007 NAFDMA Convention in Western Canada is our best opportunity to roast the guy!!! So call it fun night, call it honoring a magnificent career, or call it a celebration, but Brent’s closest friends from all across North America, and many others who just don’t want to miss the chance to learn more about his legacy, will be coming together this special Saturday evening with just one thing in mind… Join in for the fun and laughter. Maybe you’ll even want to participate in the roasting…but beware; this isn’t a surprise to Brent. He’s already working on his rebuttal, and he’s been taking incriminating photos on NAFDMA bus tours and conferences for more than 15 years!
