2p. Berries (afternoon): Integrated Pest Management for Berry Growers
Speakers:
Mike Ellis, Ohio State University
Dan Mahr, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Jed Colquhoun, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Conceptually, integrated pest management (IPM) has been around for 40+ years. The integration part of IPM presumes that management of any given pest must be done with sensitivity to the broader setting. Control measures for one pest may upset populations of other pests.
In a practical sense the aim of IPM is to only seek to reduce pest populations when danger of economic loss is imminent. This approach precludes calendar spraying, but requires careful scouting including monitoring and modeling.
This workshop will include both the theory and practical application of IPM principles for controlling diseases, insects, and weeds in berry crops; primarily strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries.
